Introduction to Pentecostal Doctrine (THE 50) An examination of the 4 cardinal doctrines of the Assemblies of God. Salvation, Baptism in the Holy Spirit, Healing, and the 2 nd Coming of Christ. The importance of theology and doctrine for the Christian life, as well as the distinctive place of these 4 doctrines in the history and current practice of Pentecostal churches is studied. Practical application to Christian life will also be examined.
Introduction to Theology THE 101 (2 units)
An introduction to theology (its meaning and purpose) and historic Protestant, Evangelical, Christian doctrines. Emphasis will be placed upon the "Statement of Fundamental Truths" of the General Council of the Assemblies of God as the framework for study. Attention will also be given to the relationship between biblical theology, systematic theology, and historical theology.
Systematic Theology (Bible, God, and Christ) THE 102 (2 units)
A study of Bibliology, the doctrine of Scripture, with focus on the nature of revelation and the inspiration and authority of Scripture, and the development and transmission of the canon; Theology Proper, the doctrine of God's existence, attributes, works, and the Trinity; and Christology, the theology of the person and work of Jesus Christ, including consideration of his names, offices, humiliation, atoning death, resurrection, and exaltation.
Bible Prophecy (Eschatology) THE 205 (2 units)
a study of prophetic themes and end-time events including: resurrection of the dead, judgments, and eternal states described in the books of Daniel, Revelation and other apocalyptic passages of Scripture. Methods of interpretation, God's covenants, the Millennium, the Antichrist, Armageddon, the Second Coming, as well as various views of the Rapture and Tribulation are also covered in the course.
The Holy Spirit (Pneumatology) THE 206 (2 units)
A study of the Person and work of the Holy Spirit including His names, nature, and ministry. The Spirit in the Old Testament, in the life of Jesus, and in the New Testament church will be highlighted. Special attention is given to the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the motivational gifts, the ministry gifts, and the nine manifestation gifts. Experience in life and ministry is emphasized.
Cults and World Religions THE 207 (2 units)
This course will provide an introduction and brief overview of leading new religious movements and world religions, including Mormonism, Jehovah's Witness, Oneness Pentecostalism, the New Age movement, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism. Each group will be reviewed through a brief history, an analysis of their major doctrines, and will include evangelistic considerations.
Apologetics THE 208 (2 units)
A philosophical study of the evidential bases for Christian faith. This course helps the student explore the relationship between faith and reason and develop a reasoned defense of the Christian world view against rivals such as naturalism and humanism. One is equipped to persuade others toward faith in, and obedience to, the God of the Christian Scriptures.
